Malaysia’s second-largest bank, CIMB Group, has hired the former head of Maybank’s investment business, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, to be the new CEO at CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, aiming to expand its business in the region.

Malaysia’s second-largest bank, CIMB Group, has hired the former head of Maybank’s investment business, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, to be the new CEO at CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, aiming to expand its business in the region.

Tengku Zafrul will also co-head the group’s Corporate Clients Solutions department, the bank said in a statement. “We continue to grow our coverage in the rest of Asean,” CIMB group CEO Nazir Razak said.
Tengku Zafrul graduated in economics and accounting from the University of Bristol and completed his master’s at the University of Exeter.
He is currently the president of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club and sits on the board of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). He took his new position at CIMB on January 2.
