Every year on 27 March, the Myanmar military – known as the Tatmadaw – shows off its might during Armed Forces Day celebrations. Originally known as Resistance Day, the holiday commemorates the beginning of the army’s resistance to Japanese occupation in 1945. The 72nd year of this celebration was no disappointment, with all branches of the military coming together for an ostentatious show of military strength.
