EMERGING VOICES AWARDS ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FROM SOUTHEAST ASIAN ARTISTS

The Emerging Voices Awards strive to give Southeast Asian film makers a voice

The Emerging Voices Awards—set to recognise artistic talent in emerging market nations—is now accepting submissions for its inaugural awards.
Financial Times and OppenheimerFunds are collaborating on the project to give credit to innovative artists in three economic regions: Africa and the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Southeast Asian countries eligible for submission are Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam. Entries from these countries, as well as any other Asia-Pacific nations, must be films in any language with English subtitles.
The judges, including prominent film critics, professors and other relevant art experts, will look for artists who show their country’s role in an increasingly connected world.
Submissions will close on April 30, with a longlist following on June 5. The final winners—each receiving a $40,000 prize, a feature in a post-event magazine and a video profile on ft.com— will be announced at an awards ceremony in New York on October 5.
