Entries from Cambodia and Malaysia feature heavily in the line up vying for the top prize at next month’s Tropfest South East Asia
Tropfest South East Asia, the newest addition to the world’s largest short film festival, has announced the 16 finalists looking to take home the winner’s trophy – plus a cash prize of $12,000.Screen-Shot-2015-01-08-at-4.49 Cambodia and the Philippines have strong representation this year with five entrants each. Malaysia follows close behind with four, with Singapore and Vietnam presenting one each. As well as the cash prize, sponsored by the philanthropic foundation Yayasan Sime Darby, the winner will go on a film industry immersion trip to Los Angeles, courtesy of the Motion Picture Association. “Tropfest is dedicated to providing a platform for those stories than might otherwise be left untold,” said Tropfest SEA Managing Director Joe Sidek. “It’s an honour to have so many talented directors entering Tropfest SEA, and it’s a true privilege to be building this stepping stone to the filmmakers of tomorrow.” The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Penang on February 1.
