Malaysia gets its very own Lamborghini

An Italian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur had an unusual visitor last month: a limited edition supercar by the name of Lamborghini Gallardo MLE.

With models posing near it and car enthusiasts drooling over it, photographers rushed to snap the high-end sports car, which has been built exclusively for the Malaysian market.
At a glitzy ceremony in the capital, Lamborghini unveiled the MLE (Malaysia Limited Edition), which has been tailored to meet the demands of its Malaysian drivers. Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur chief operating officer Marcus Chye said many local customers wanted their cars to have the interior of a standard Gallardo model –  the company’s best-selling model – but with the exterior of the Superleggera 570-4.
“We have given them the best of both worlds,” he said at the launch. “The car looks fierce on the outside but is comfortable and spacious on the inside for everyday driving in Malaysia.”
Perhaps ‘everyday driving’ in the congested streets of Kuala Lumpur won’t allow its 5.2-litre V10 powered engine to sprint from rest to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds, but it’s sure to get noticed. Available in three colours (solid white, pearl green and pearl orange), the Lamborghini Gallardo MLE LP550-2 sports an aggressive front bumper, carbon side skirts, titanium exhaust tips and a carbon-fibre rear diffuser.
With a price tag of $550,000 (without insurance) for one of only 20 available custom-made units, the Lamborghini Gallardo MLE promises to show that when it comes to automotive exclusivity, money in Malaysia is no object.
