Khmer Artist Savann Thav launches his latest art collection of colour-mastering canvas artworks related to the Celestial at his exhibition opened at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra on May 6th, 2019

May 2, 2019

Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra launches a new exhibition today by Cambodian artist Thav Savann. The collection, entitled ‘Voûte Celeste’ will be on show for three months, with visitors and locals of the capital welcome to experience this unique collection of colour- mastering-canvas artworks.
Born in Cambodia, Savann has been living and working in France since 1980. His work cleverly reflects both his personal experience and a universal vision of humanity. As a young boy he liked to observe women doing embroidery and enjoyed creating assemblages with flowers and roots. He knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. Ever since 1999, he has been showcased in many solo and group exhibitions in Paris and Phnom Penh. He has artworks in the private collection of the King of Cambodia and at the Cambridge School in Cambodia.
“Voûte Celeste” translates to “Celestial Sphere.” It introduces the astronomical concept from Antiquity, which describes the hemisphere above the observer, allowing to position the different stars in the sky and give precise coordinates. His exhibition encompasses intriguing abstract paintings, which encapsulate his poetic vision of the world and a transcription of his emotions.

“I’m delighted to collaborate with Madeleine de Langalerie and Charles-Henri Chevet as they love art and respect the artistic work of each artist. To have the incredible support of such wonderful people is a true inspiration and motivation, artistically speaking. Being truly understood, both as an artist and as an individual is extremely important to me, and it is my honour to have the opportunity to exhibit my work in this dedicated art space at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra” – Savann Thav

Local art organisation ‘Recreation’ assisted to curate the exhibition, with extensive history in Cambodia, promoting local artists to the international stage. This partnership was natural for the Hotel, which has just opened its brand new Gallery, strongly supporting the arts in the Kingdom. All Sofitel Hotels and Resort around the world do indeed make it a point of honor to promote art and culture, particularly inspiring local talents, and the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra is no exception. Various Cambodian artists will be featured throughout the year. Charles-Henri Chevet, General Manager of Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra described the exhibition as “a beautiful opportunity to contemplate the stories behind each piece and enter into the mind of Savann”.
The exhibition will be open from May to July with free admission.
